I'm looking to rent a small amount of space (.5 acres or less) in King County to try growing flowers for the first time! I dream of being a farmer someday, but until then, I'd at least like to try to start learning basic skills.
I currently work full time at a nonprofit and have been casually gardening for about 5 years. I'd love to find a space that I can access early mornings, evenings, or weekends. I'm a beginner, so I welcome any advice you have to offer. That said, I have a ton of books and love to learn the hard way too (experimentation, lots of failure..).
I've grown herbs/veggies in home gardens (3 years) and while volunteering in various community gardens (1.5 years). I also have ecological restoration experience (3 years). I've never grown flowers.
I hope to use the land to learn. I might try to sell bouquets on the side of the road at some point this summer depending on yield, but this is mostly for personal use. I'm developing a business plan, but I'm learning as I go, so it'll be several weeks/months until I bring it to a FSA representative for feedback.
