My husband and I are looking for some land in the White Salmon area and would like to learn from other more experienced farmers how the operation is run and to add to what is already in place. We are also interested in land stewardship and land trusts and would like to take care of the right piece of land for the next generations to come and to use alternative methods and organic methods as well.
Who I am and What I'm looking for:
My husband and I are looking for some land in the White Salmon area and would like to learn from other more experienced farmers how the operation is run and to add to what is already in place. We are interested in growing blueberries, and having bees, as well as mushroom cultivation. We are hoping to sell at local markets nearby and local restaurants.
I have taught composting and gardening at a local community garden in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. This was a small urban farm/garden where I managed the herb section and taught workshops. I also volunteered and worked at Common Ground Garden in Eugene, Oregon for over three years planting and maintaining blueberry bushes, setting up water systems, planting, weeding, mulching etc.
Crops preferred to work with:
Short term plans for the land / farm business:
I would like to learn what is already being done on the land or farm and what has worked so far and what has not worked. I'm interested in gathering and knowledge and experience from the owners that have been there and how they have run it. I would like to add blueberry bushes to the land and to start off taking over what is already working and once I understand and can do those things then slowly add to that. I'm also interested in having bees down the road and cultivating mushrooms for local markets and restaurants. The other thing I'm interested in growing is garlic.
