I am currently a farm worker in King County. I help manage a 3.5 acre vegetable farm, and am hoping to run my own operation next year growing vegetables and cut flowers using organic and regenerative principles.
My name is Francis Henn. I have four years of experience growing organic vegetables for market in Seattle and Woodinvile, WA. I am looking to start my own growing operation next season that will include organic (non-certified) vegetables, but with a heavier emphasis on cut flower production. I am specifically interested in land with water access in King, Snohomish, and Skagit Counties, but am willing to consider working in Whatcom or Pierce County as well. I plan to farm with a focus on building and contributing to soil health and biodiversity. I am also a beekeeper and am considering including honey production in my plans for next season.
I began learning about and working in agriculture in 2018 in rural Guatemala where I worked as a Peace Corps volunteer with a focus on nutrition. There I worked on several community ag projects that included seedling production in greenhouses, beekeeping, and establishing various community farm plots. In 2020, I started my own urban market garden in North Seattle. Starting in March 2021, I began work as a production manager at Sammamish Farms in Redmond while also maintaining a market garden in South Seattle where I grow vegetables for a CSA and cut flowers for a local florist. I also currently maintain a small apiary in Snohomish county .
My short term plans for the land are to expand my cut-flower, vegetable and potentially honey production enterprises.
