Seeking land to set roots into and eventually purchase. Interested in properties between 5-40ish acres!
Hi there! My name is Lizzie, I am 26 years old and currently work at Local Roots Farm in Duvall, WA. I have 4 years of farming experience. The majority of my professional experience is with vegetables, though I have also raised meat chickens, pigs, and turkeys. I also have an unending love for horses (and all animals). I graduated from Whitman College with a BA in Religious Studies (concentration in SE Asian Religions). In addition to farming, I have worked as a wilderness guide and leadership development instructor for a girl's wilderness camp in Minnesota. I am an avid hiker and have had the privilege of doing two thru-hikes (long distance trails). I am currently training as a Death Doula (supporting individuals through the process of preparing for death, and for the experience of death). I have lived at a zen monastery off and on since graduating college and have a deep love for life! I find satisfaction, joy, and purpose when working with and caring for land and animals - I am not afraid of hard work.
I seek to move to a piece of land that I could eventually purchase. I am going to be in online school pursuing an MSW degree summer 2021 -summer 2023, and seek a position where I take care of/improve the health of your land (restoration and native species propagation is a passion of mine!), take on animal chores, and any other day to day needs you may have. I am open to paying rent in addition to stewardship, and ideally would like to live in a house (not interested in a trailer).
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, if you believe our needs align, I would love to chat with you! Please feel free to email me.
Lizzie has worked on farms in NC, AK, OR, and WA since 2014 when she first WWOOFed for 2 months at a Sorghum farm in Mars Hill NC, called Double Tree Farm. NOLS Alaska Farm - Palmer Alaska - 2016 - full season crew. Great Vow Zen Monastery Farm - Clatskanie, OR - 2015, 2017 season crew member. Local Roots Farm - Duvall, WA - 2020 crew member.
Short term plan is to chat with you about what you need and what your land might need, or what is already in motion on your land. Dreams of starting a permanent-bed vegetable garden with abundance to support many throughout the year, laying hens, and any other animals that are of interest. Dreams of rehabilitating portion of land for native species and to support wild bees.
