Farmer and aspiring small business owner looking for up to 10 acres to develop into a bio-intensive market garden and food forest with a focus on land stewardship, hyper-local food production, education and regenerative agriculture methods.
My name is Angie, I am a small-scale farmer and aspiring small-business owner with experience in all facets of small-scale agriculture, including propagation, planting, harvesting, processing, soil building/amending, field planning and value-added production. My growing interests include indigenous native edibles, sub-tropical fruits and starches, enduring perennial food crops as well as unique, gourmet and well-adapted market garden crops for the Olympic Peninsula. I am currently searching for land that can accommodate a 1 acre market garden, but my longer term goal is to find a permanent space to accommodate all of the above-mentioned crops with the option to build permanent structures such as a barn, wash pack, greenhouse and education/gathering pavilion. Ideally, this land would have at least 1 acre dedicated to market garden production, 3 acres of food forest, 3 acres as a protected ecological site, and 1 acre for personal dwelling and other buildings.
I have 4 years small-scale farm experience in growing a wide variety of market garden and perennial forest crops, including lettuce, nightshades, brassicas, root crops, tropical fruits and starches, and medicinal plants. I have crewed on several farms with a focus on permaculture and/or small-scale/bio-intensive production, most recently spending over a year in Kapa'au, HI apprenticing on a permaculture farm with a focus on restoring indigenous plants/environments and elevating production of Hawaiian canoe crops in the community. This experience in particular has given me the knowledge and the confidence to begin my own small business with a similar focus on cultivating indigenous crops and regenerating land for long term food security/sustainability.
My 1 year goal is simple: to have at least 1/4 of an acre in a bio-intensive/low-till market garden production that serves the local community through direct-to-consumer sales, such as local farmer's markets, as well as a few, select wholesale distribution channels. Within this first year I also want to establish my business with a strong online/social media presence and find as many local, in-person channels as possible to promote the farm.
